Simmone Howell is a Melbourne-based writer of fiction and non-fiction. Through her writing she explores outsiders, identity and belonging, teenage mythologies and sub-cultures.
Simmone’s novels have been published in the US, UK, Germany and Brazil. Notes from the Teenage Underground was awarded the Victorian Premier’s Prize for Young Adult Fiction. Everything Beautiful was a finalist in the Melbourne Prize for Best Writing and Girl Defective was shortlisted for the 2014 Prime Ministers Award for Young Adult Literature and the Davitt Awards for Female Crime fiction. Her non-fiction regularly features in periodicals and journals. In addition to writing, Simmone teaches at RMIT University and produces creative workshops that utilise zines, maps and ‘self-as-source’ for schools and community groups. She is a Stella Schools ambassador, promoting Australian women’s writing in high schools around the country.
