Samina Islam is a multidisciplinary artist working with mixed medium containing needlework. Her recent works have focused on identity of self and abstraction of nature. She lives and works in Karachi, where she received a Fine Art diploma. She has participated in several artist residencies where she has worked on projects inspired by the surroundings and culture of the country.

She has exhibited in Pakistan and internationally. She also took part in the first Art Biennale held in Karachi in 2017. Her work has been used as cover art by “Audien” an American DJ, record producer and musician nominated for a Grammy Award in 2015. Her work has been featured in Numinous magazine and Take on Art magazine (India).

During her residency at the VAR program, Samina Islam will be creating a body of work inspired by the nature in her surroundings. She will be exploring her ideas through photography, short videos, small mixed media pieces and textile sculptures which can be part of a land installation.
