Marta Cascales Alimbau is a pianist and composer.
Her recent works have focused on composing chamber music, solo piano pieces and collaborating with other artistic disciplines, especially dance. Also, lately she has found a new line of work exploring the possibilities of electroacoustic music and creative field recording.
Marta lives and works in Barcelona, where she received a Professional Music Qualification with a specialization in Piano from CMMB and a BA in Audiovisuals Communication from the Barcelona University. Currently, she is pursuing a BA in Composition and she’s being selected to study abroad at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
Marta has played a large number of piano concerts playing her own music in Barcelona, Madrid, Girona, Brussels Atlanta and San Francisco. She is also interested in fusing music with visuals, she has been commissioned by Leo Messi Foundation and the European Commission - among others - to compose original music for audiovisuals.
Marta's music is influenced by Bach, Debussy, Ravel and Arvo Pärt, Ólafur Arnalds, Chad Lawson and Caroline Shaw. She strives to create beauty on simple line melodies and atmospheric musical textures; always looking for the subtlety and sonorities that “tells you something”.
During her residency at the VAR program, Marta created music directly inspired by the SS Vallejo houseboat. She also recorded the sounds of the boat and the natural surroundings. All these sounds and noises will be edited, combined and fused with the melodic and beautiful timbre of the piano, creating a unique sound, where the music actually contains the elements that give life to SS Vallejo.
